Text says "MassAbility" on a purple background, with "Mass" in dark blue and "Ability" in white.

The gap

The Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission exists to help people with disabilities. But many people with disabilities weren’t engaging with them.

The research

MRC had an awareness problem and a perception problem. First, far too few people knew about MRC. And second, those who did were offended by the “Rehabilitation” in their name, because it suggested people with disabilities needed to be “fixed.”

The strategy

We positioned MRC as the place where anything is possible for people with disabilities.

A scattered collection of business cards and square cards, featuring the name Jonathan Casey and MassAbility branding, in shades of purple, blue, and white, on a black background. A large purple sign on a building facade displays the word "MassAbility" in white text, with some green foliage visible below. Open book on a concrete surface, featuring a page with large text reading, "We all deserve the freedom to live on our own terms," alongside a manifesto. Shadows cast across the pages. A purple square icon with concave sides is centered on a textured mustard-yellow background, resembling fabric.

The creative

With a brand new name and optimistic idea, we turned a place where people with disabilities went to be fixed into a place where “Possibility is our purpose.”
